  • Q: Can I emboss with the ImPress?
  • A: You can heat emboss using the modular units:

    1. With the Impress Ink-stamper, clear embossing ink and your favourite stamp, stamp an image of your choice onto your paper/card.
    2. Using the Craftychique hot melt (heating element inverted in cradle with the tri-plate fitted and a thermo-sheet under your card) and UTEE create a raised/embossed image on the stamp in a few seconds. At this stage you could add coloured embossing powders to your image. Or use UTEE to ‘seal’ images with acrylic paints, distressed ink or coloured stamps.
    3. You can deboss (ie make an imprint) into thick card and similar materials with any heated greetings or patterned die.

    4. Q: What is Hot Foiling?
    5. A: Hot foil stamping, also referred to as gold blocking, foil blocking or hot foil blocking, is a dry printing process in which the mirror image is transferred to the surface to be printed by a combination of heat and pressure.

    6. Q: What material can I foil onto?
    7. A: There is a wide variety of materials that can be used to foil onto: most high quality, smooth/glossy card, paper and cardboard, leather, ribbon, cellophane, wood, paper serviettes to name a few. We also frequently test foiling with samples of unusual materials sent in by customers. If you’d like us to test a sample for you, please contact us at [email protected]

      Back to Questions.

    8. Q: Can I use the foil on fabric?
    9. A: No: Due to the lack of elasticity and stretch, most foils will simply crack and flake when applied to fabrics.

    10. Q: Can I use CraftyChique foils with other hot foiling machines?
    11. A: Our foils are heat resistant therefore they ought to work with other hot-foiling machines. We have tested our foils on the TODO. If you like we can send out a sample for you to test on your other hot-foiling machines. Our foils are not suitable for laser toners. We have tested our foils on a number of substrates and have chosen to stock only those that work effectively.

    12. Q: What is “Double Foiling”?
    13. A: “Double Foiling” is simply the name given to foiling on top of a surface or design that has already been foiled to provide different effects

An example of double foiling is shown in the image gallery – the wooden embellishment shaped star – primary foil in silver and gold and then double foiled in black lace and butterflies.

    14. Q: What is a die?
    15. A: The die, often called a ‘block’, is a raised magnesium image bonded to a bespoke strip of aluminium which is used to transfer heat from the ImPress to the foil’s surface.

      Back to Questions.

    16. Q: Can I use CraftyChique dies with other hot foiling machines?
    17. A: No, CraftyChique’s dies have been specifically designed for use with the ImPress, as they slide into the bespoke slots which are angled so that the dies don’t fall out. The dies may not fit into other machines, may become damaged, or could damage other machines. However, we have recently been able to provide TODO users with our Craftychique dies without the backing plate. The die lies flat on the TODO heat plate. Please note the dies are not magnetic so please use a silicone heat mat to pick the hot die off the heat plate or allow to cool. In addition, please experiment with the height setting on your TODO as we cannot accept liability against any damage caused.

Please contact [email protected] to discuss your design we will have it approved prior to order.

    20. Q: How long does it take for a custom die to be made?
    21. A: A custom die is usually turned around in 3-5 days for orders placed before 12pm. Please note at busy times such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day and bank holidays, orders may take longer to process. We would highly recommend you discuss your needs as early as practical in order to avoid disappoint with order-processing, postage and or inclement weather.
